Feeling Thankful

November is rapidly approaching, which means the new year is strutting its way into our lives. We are so excited for what 2020 will bring, but during these last months of the year, we thought it would be great to reflect on the great things our Super Stars community has accomplished.

Results for Back-to-School Campaign

Our Back-to-School campaign ended in September and we were very close to reaching our $15,000 goal! It’s a huge accomplishment for us, and we are so thankful for your support and kind words throughout the campaign. It’s always inspiring to see how much of a difference we can make if we come together for a cause, so thank you so much for making September a success.

Volunteer Support

We would also like to thank our volunteers this past month for helping out at our school sites! Our friends at UC Berkeley STEM have started to come to our schools, Garfield Elementary and Aspire Triumph Academy, every other week to engage our students in STEM. Their activities have been a huge hit with our students, so we are thankful for their fun attitudes and passion in bringing STEM to our schools.

Our students got to learn about photosynthesis and got to bring some plants home!

The Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley also volunteered at Garfield Elementary for a Reading Buddies event. They read books with our 1st graders and sang songs with them at the end of the day. From what I saw floating from room to room, everyone had a great time discovering new stories and rereading books from their childhood.

If you are interested in volunteering with Super Stars Literacy, please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Marwa Abubakr  (mabubakr@superstarsliteracy.org), and she will be more than happy to set something up with you.

And that’s a wrap for October! We can’t wait to share more stories of our Super Stars in the future, so please stay tuned for more news on our website.
